Closter is a borough in Bergen County that has a population of around 8,500. The borough gets its name from the Dutch word "Klooster," which means "a quiet place, a monastery or cloister." The region was first settled in the 1660's, but was only incorporated in 1904. The borough is home to its own emergency services - the Closter Fire Department, the Closter Police Department and the Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps.
